Gingerbread men

Who doesn't love Gingerbread men... they taste amazing all year round, they remind you of being a Child, you can decorate them however you please and finally you can choose whether you eat a leg, an arm or a head first.

To make these little fella's all you will need is:
325g plain flour
125g unsalted butter
100g dark muscovado sugar
4 tbsp of golden syrup
2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp bicarb of soda

For my decorations I kept it very simple I used sultanas for buttons and white icing for facial features. (I must have felt like being healthy when baking these as right now I would used m&m's for buttons and would pipe chocolate for the face).

Turn your oven to 170 degrees, melt your butter, sugar and syrup together stirring until melted. Take off the heat and sieve in your flour, ginger and bicarb of soda. This should then make a stiff dough. Roll your dough on a lightly floured surface until you've got your dough at about 1/2cm. Now the fun begins....

Get your Gingerbread men cutter and start cutting out your little guys. Once all cut out pop your gingerbread men onto your baking tray and put in the centre of the oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, these should come out golden brown. (If you have any spare dough you may as well use it so make whatever shapes or letters you want)
Once out the oven leave to completely cool and then decorate as you wish.

I hope you like this recipe and enjoy making your own gingerbread men!

Merry Christmas
